The Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said there are many common features within Islamic Ummah and small details must not cause differences. He added that no one has the right to insult Shia / Sunni sacred beliefs. In a meeting with the Sunni scholars he stressed that there are no exaggeration in Quran and every detail in it is real truth, therefore no one is able to tamper with the Quran. The Grand Ayatollah emphasized the point that the Quran is the best symbol of unity amongst Muslims. He explained that basic principles of the religion and its branches, the ethics, the history of the prophets are all included in the Quran and the Ummah should think about reaching the position of honour and dignity around this axis.

The Grand Ayatollah Makarem said most of the problems in countries like Syria, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan stem from disunity and added that the enemies wish to sew discord amongst Muslims and then give them weapons to fight each other in order to destroy their countries. He mentioned that Wahhabis / Takfiris are in the hands of arrogant powers and the Zionists and they do not have pity on Shia / Sunni Muslims. The Grand Ayatollah emphasized the point of unity amongst Muslims and asked them to be aware of enemies’ plots. The Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi in his final remarks asked the Sunni scholars to be the messengers of unity and reminded everyone to be aware of the plots against the Islamic Ummah.
