ISIS deputy governor of Hawija killed by Iraqi forces
The Iraqi War Media Cell announced the death of the ISIS deputy governor of Hawija city, west of Kirkuk, and a number of militants in the air strikes conducted by the Iraqi Air Force on Sunday.
Based on the information of the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security, the Iraqi Air Force carried out several air strikes, resulting in the destruction of a den belonging to the ISIS militants.
The strikes killed a number of ISIS militants including the deputy governor of Hawija, according the Iraqi War Media Cell.
Moreover, the air raid destroyed 10 vehicles, a laboratory for preparing car bombs and a weapons cache belonging to the extremist group in Hawija, the statement said.
Hawija, some 30 miles west of Kirkuk, is a strategic town which has fallen into the hands of ISIS since mid-2014. Iraqi authorities postponed an operation to liberate the town last year, instead they moved onto central Mosul.
