Leader congratulates Iran soccer team on World Cup qualification

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has congratulated the national Iranian football squad on their qualification for the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“The victory of the national soccer team made the public, sport enthusiasts in particular, happy. I express my gratitude to those who created this feeling of happiness,” the Leader said in a message on Tuesday.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also congratulated the Iranian nation and athletes on the victory of the national football team against South Korea.

Ahmadinejad stated that the triumph once again attested to the capabilities of the Iranian youths and nation.

Also, president-elect Hassan Rohani extended his sincere felicitations to the Iranians, especially the sports community, on the victory.

Meanwhile, Iranian lawmakers sent a message of congratulation to the national team and the Iranian people on qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Verbal wars between South Korean coach Choi Kang-hee and his Iranian counterpart Carlos Queiroz had raised temperatures ahead of the match.

On Tuesday, Iran secured its place at the FIFA 2014 World Cup after it registered a 1-0 victory against South Korea.

The 2014 tournament in Brazil will mark Iran’s fourth World Cup appearance.

The Islamic Republic went to the FIFA World Cup in 1978, 1998, and 2006.
