Iraqi Commander: Battle to Liberate Mosul Killed 2000 ISIL Gunmen So Far
Commander of Iraqi Nineveh operations, Maj. Gen. Najim Abdullah al-Jubouri, said Sunday the battle to liberate Mosul have so far killed two thousand armed men of the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) terrorist group, including the main leaders.”
Jubouri said that “preliminary tolls of the ongoing Mosul military operations signify that more than two thousand ISIL gunmen killed, since the start of the operations, including prominent leaders,” adding that “military units are advancing as planned, and only 6 kilometers separate us from battles at the right coast off Mosul to liberate it from this misled thugs.”
He pointed out that “Iraqi and international coalition air force provided important air coverage and contributed to the destruction of the infrastructure of the organization [ISIL] and the majority of ammunition warehouses it possesses.”
The Iraqi commander noted that “the Apache helicopters entered into Nineveh battles on the left coast and on a number of fighting axes against the organization [ISIL] because of its special defensive and offensive capability, as well as for its high technology in setting goals, especially in street battles.”
Jubouri revealed that “the information provided to us from our sources and from inside Mosul confirm a mass escape by ISIL gunmen, since those who remain in the city know that they will be definitely murdered.”
