Turkish Citizens Protest against Ankara's Support for Terrorists in Syria
Hundreds of Turkish citizens gathered in Istanbul and Mersin cities to express their solidarity with Syria's fight against terrorist groups which are mainly supported by the Turkish government.
In Istanbul, demonstrators who gathered in Kadykoy square condemned the terrorist crimes against the Syrian people in Idlib, Jisr al-Shughour and other Syrian cities, chanting solidarity slogans in support for the Syrian people in combating terrorist mercenaries backed by the Turkish regime.
In Mersin, people praised the Syrians for their battle against terrorism.
They urged Turkish and international public opinion to hold accountable the perpetrators of terrorist massacres in Syria and to support Syria in its war against terrorism.
In February, the Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed that the train-and-equip program for Syrian opposition militants will start on March 1 in Turkey.
During his weekly address to the press, Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tanju Bilgic said the program "will start on March 1".
"I cannot give further details about the program," Bilgic added.
On Feb 20, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu had mentioned that around 2,000 Syrian gunmen will take part in a train-and-equip program in Turkey starting in early March.
Cavusoglu said that other countries, such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia, were also engaged in similar programs.
On Feb 19, Turkey and the US inked a deal to train-and-equip the Syrian terrorists, Turkish diplomatic sources said.
Syria was hit by a violent unrest since mid-March 2011, where the western media reports accuse countries, mainly the US, Turkey and Saudi Arabia of orchestrating the conflict in the country and providing terrorist groups with money, weapons and trained mercenaries.
