Israel worried about potential US-Iran rapprochement: Analyst
Press TV has interviewed Brian Becker, with the ANSWER coalition, in Washington, and Bob Ayers, an international security analyst in Somerset, to discuss US President Barack Obama’s compromise with the Congress over a draft bill about a final nuclear deal with Iran.
Becker says Obama has accepted the new draft bill proposed by the Congress because some compromises have been made in it, adding that the resolution makes it very difficult for the Congress to have a veto power over a final agreement.
If the US Congressmen try to reject a final agreement with Iran and Obama decides to veto their disapproval, it will be very hard for the Republicans to attract the two-third necessary votes of the Senate in order to override the Obama veto, he argues.
Referring to Israel’s attempt to hinder a final deal between Iran and the P5+1 group, Becker says that the Israeli regime is not worried about Iran as a purported potential nuclear threat but is worried about the possibility of a new sort of rapprochement or semi-partnership between the United States and Iran.
Ayers, for his turn, says the Obama administration claims the agreement with Iran is an accord and not a treaty, therefore, there is no need to submit it to the Congress for approval. He adds Obama knows he would lose the entire deal if he tried to push it through without congressional approval, therefore, he accepted to make the compromise and agree to the draft bill.
