UK airstrike on Syria ‘not ruled out’: Hammond

British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond says London has “not ruled out” taking part in airstrikes against ISIL militants in Syria.
The British foreign secretary made the remarks during a visit to Washington.
Hammond said the UK would consider participating in airstrikes against the militants in Syria if the United States requested assistance.
“We would also frankly need to be in a position where public and parliamentary opinion in the UK was supportive … we would want to have a sense that public opinion has moved to a point where it would be supportive of such action,” Hammond said.
The British official also said that his country would “explore with other allies and partners what is meant by a buffer zone, how such a concept would work - but I certainly wouldn't want to rule it out at this stage."
The latest comments by the British official come weeks after British MPs voted to authorize RAF airstrikes against ISIL militants in Iraq, following requests from Baghdad.
Earlier this month, ISIL militants released a video purportedly showing an ISIL militant beheading British national Alan Henning. Recently, British aid worker, David Haines, has also been beheaded by the militants.
The Takfiri terrorists currently control parts of eastern and northern Syria and Iraq’s northern and western regions. They have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Izadi Kurds and others in Iraq, as they continue their atrocities.
