A security official told the Al-Safir daily that the two had come to Lebanon from Jordan and had used fake IDs, Al-Alam news network reported.
He said investigations about the two have not concluded yet but it has been established that they were not Lebanese.
“Efforts continue to identify the nationality of the two who perpetrated the Beirut suicide bombing,” he added.
He said while the bombers came to Lebanon from Jordan it does not mean they were Jordanian nationals. “It is possible that they had the citizenship of another Arab country but were residing in Jordan.”
He also noted that the two bomber’s ID cards had been so professionally forged that even the security departments cannot easily find out they are fake.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army’s intelligence forces have searched the hotel room where the two bombers had been staying prior to the attack.
Security forces have also carried out DNA and fingerprinting to identify the bombers.
It has been established that the two left the hotel on foot on Tuesday morning. The two got on a car midway to the Iranian embassy. One of them who was wearing an explosive belt got off and ran toward the embassy’s gate before blowing himself up. A minute later, the second terrorist drove the car packed with explosives toward the embassy and detonated it.
Lebanon’s security forces are also trying to identify those who provided logistical support to the two terrorist bombers.
In Tuesday’s terrorist attack outside the Iranian embassy in Beirut 25 people were killed and some 160 more were injured.
Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Lebanon Hojat-ol-Islam Ebrahim Ansari and the wife of an Iraniandiplomat in Beirut were among those martyred in the attack.
