Bad Luck, Good Luck. Who Knows?

The Shia scholar Hojjatul Islam Ansarian believes phrases such as chance and luck really never existed and from the Islamic point of view is totally rejected as well as no logic will accept them. He added that all the Ulema and philosophers say each phenomenon and incident in the nature and the world of being has a reason of its own. Every human being has wisdom and will with the power of choice to change own destiny.

Sheikh Ansarian referred to the real story of Horr and the cursed Omar ibn Saad which can make the issue clear. Both of them under a unified command with one ideology came to fight Imam Hussain (AS). But in one night each one thought about the whole situation and decided to take actions which were totally opposite of each other. One chose everlasting paradise and the other chose to murder Imam Hussain (AS) for the worldly possessions. The history has indicated the fact that all the incidents are only the result of will and actions of individuals.

The holy Quran also defines the truth that whatever happens to a person in this world is the consequence of the actions of that person. Therefore if the bus is delayed it is due to the traffic or if a thief steals a person’s bag is because firstly the thief chose that person and secondly that person was careless enough to give the thief the opportunity to steal the bag. So each incident in this world has a reason behind it.

There is no doubt that all the things and all the beings are created by Allah (SWT) but how people use the Godsend things depend on their planning and actions. The wisdom, intelligence, thought, will and determination are all at a person’s disposal to use. Of course there are natural phenomenon such as flood and earthquake which their happenings are in full control of the Almighty but these natural incidents need to be discussed separately and independently of the current topic.
