Sheikh Ahmad Teyyeb the Al-Azhar chief said we need Islamic unity, there is an organised plot to sow discord amongst Islamic Ummah. Teyyeb rejected calling Shias, Kafar (non-believers) and said this is unacceptable and there is no reason for it in Quran, Hadith (narrations) or in Islam.

Al-Azhar chief stressed the point that there is no difference between Shia and Sunni but political problems are due to Jihadi Fatwas. He said he is ready to travel to any place that Muslims gather especially Najaf. Sheikh Teyyeb told a group of Iraqis that soon I will go to Iraq and I will go to Najaf and I am the father of Shias and Sunnis.
