Iranian, Iraqi, Lebanese, Algerian Speakers Condemn Israeli Raid on Syria

The issue was raised during the Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani's separate phone conversations with his Iraqi, Lebanese and Algerian counterparts Osama al-Nujaifi, Nabih Berri and Mohammad Arab Walad Khalifa on Monday.

The Syrian Army said in a statement on Wednesday that two people were killed and five others injured in an Israeli airstrike on a scientific center in Jamraya, 25 kilometers (15 miles) Northwest of the capital Damascus.

"Israel's aggression on Damascus showed the extent of adventurous attempts against Syria which are being carried out with the partnership of several regional countries," the Iranian parliament speaker said.

The Iraqi parliament speaker, for his part, said "all of us are standing in the same front united against the Zionist regime".

Also during Larijani's phone talk with the Lebanese parliament speaker, Berri said what is going on in Syria is weakening the line of resistance against Israel.

Elsewhere, the Algerian speaker condemned the Israeli air raid on Syria, but told Larijani that something more than verbal condemnation of Israel is needed.

Yesterday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad accused Israel of trying to destabilize Syria by attacking a military research base outside Damascus last week, and said Syria was able to confront "current threats ...and aggression" against it.

President Assad made the remarks in a meeting with Secretary of Iran's National Security Council Saeed Jalili in Damascus. It was the Syrian president's first reported response to Israel's attack.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
