Shiite, Sunni Scholars Blame US for Sectarian Strife in Pakistan
Shiite and Sunni Pakistani scholars in a meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader's Advisor for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati took the US responsible for sectarian rift in their country, and stressed the necessity for maintaining unity among Muslims.
"The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) party will not allow the US to implement its plots to sow discord among Muslims," JI Head Syed Munawar Hassan said during the meeting in Lahore on Saturday evening.
Also during the meeting, Deputy Secretary General of Majlis-e Wahdat-e Muslimeen (MWM) Allama Amin Shaheedi underlined Shiite and Sunni Muslims' vigilance against enemy plots, and said, "Some terrorists who have been nourished by the US are after creating a rift among Shiites and Sunnis so that they can hit a blow to Pakistan but the sons of Pakistan will defend their country by foiling this aggressive move."
He said that Pakistani Muslims will maintain their unity by following the guidelines of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and added that God willing, enemies will fail in their plots.
Heading a high-ranking political delegation, Velayati arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday to meet and discuss bilateral ties and regional developments with the high-ranking Pakistani officials and religious scholars.
Addressing Karachi Sunni and Shiite religious scholars on Friday, he cautioned Muslim nations against enemies' divisive plots, and asked the Shiites and Sunnis to grow united against the arrogant powers.
Velayati further underlined the importance of unity among various factions of Islam, including Sunni and Shiite.
