“I am more mindful probably than most of not only our incredible strengths and capabilities, but also our limitations,” Obama said in an interview with the New Republic magazine published on Monday.

“In a situation like Syria, I have to ask, can we make a difference in that situation? Would a military intervention have an impact? How would it affect our ability to support troops who are still in Afghanistan?” the president asked.

His remarks came at the time when world leaders meeting in Davos, Switzerland, seek more US engagement in the Syria conflict as well as in the French war in the West African nation of Mali.

In an interview with CBS television program "60 Minutes" On Sunday, Obama contrary to the US intervention in Libya to topple Muammar Gaddafi, a similar measure in Syria may “backfire.”

"We do nobody a service when we leap before we look, where we ... take on things without having thought through all the consequences of it," Obama added.

On December 11, 2012, the US recognized on the so-called National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.

On December 16, reports revealed that the US together with Britain helped training Syria militants in Jordan to use light and heavy weapons.
